It is such an uphill battle to keep up with the safest products to buy for your children. I am always amazed with how deceiving some of the marketing language can be. I love it when the packaging says “All Natural” only to find that the product contains some of the worst chemicals around.
That’s why I was thrilled to find that the Cosmetic Database had published “The Parent’s Buying Guide: Safety Guide to Children’s Personal Care Products”.
It outlines which ingredients to always avoid and which you should avoid when possible. The guide also gives some specific product suggestions by brand.
Check it out!

Thank you for sharing this link! I am always amazed when a product I think is perfectly safe for my kid (label claims it is “all natural”) should be avoided like the plague!
We too think the word ‘natural’ is often misused. We also believe that any child’s room and living environment should be free of toxic substances also. Please check out our natural food based paint with absolutely ZERO VOC’s. Patented in 2003, our paint contains 94% food ingredients and is absolutely safe for all babies. No harmful fumes, no caustic chemicals such as lime (like other milk paints), and no ingredients listed in Propostion 65 for the state of California. Easy to use, applies and protects like standard interior wall paint with good scrubbability. Over 500 colors available and we can color match almost any color in any brand.

I agree, it’s often a marketing ploy! If we don’t look very carefully at the label and ingredients, things can be very misleading. There is no FDA definition of “natural” so we’re left to our own devices on this one.
